Mom is a 20 year nurse and hospital administrator and mother. Sister is a 20 year NICU nurse and mother. There are 2 more nurses in the family. Mother-in-law has 5 kids. That should be enough shouldn’t it? What’s a pediatrician going to tell me that they can’t?

It’s not you. I tell my wife the same thing.

Have the baby at home if you don’t like the hospitals rules. They are informing you before you go what their rules are. It’s not like you arrived, had your baby and then they sprung the rule on you.

If you have so many people in your family that are in the medical profession then having a baby at home might be the way you want to go.

Personally I don’t know why you wouldn’t have a pediatrician but if you don’t want one you have other options. Nobody is making you go to this hospital, except maybe your wife.

A nurse has a specific skill set; a physician has another skill set. Some nurses do have training that allows them to do limited diagnosis, but even they do not have the skill set of physicians.

For routine stuff for a healthy baby, a nurse is probably okay. But if anything goes wrong, you’ll want that advanced skill set.
