A treaty signed in 1994 by the US and Britain could pull both countries into a war to protect Ukraine if President Putin's troops cross into the country.
Bill Clinton, John Major, Boris Yeltsin and Leonid Kuchma the then-rulers of the USA, UK, Russia and Ukraine - agreed to the The Budapest Memorandum as part of the denuclearization of former Soviet republics after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Technically it means that if Russia has invaded Ukraine then it would be difficult for the US and Britain to avoid going to war.

Bush’s Fault!
it’s not a treaty, it never went before the Senate for ratification and carries no legal weight or obligation beyond being an “understanding.”
Considering that Obama’s goal in any war is to end it, which makes winning against him much easier, Putin may not be worried.
Just exactly how WW 1 got started..interlocking treaties for protection. WW 2 Also. Cuidado America!
Don’t worry we have OBAMA. He’s ABOVE the law - ask him!! (Sarcasm)
They've obviously listened to SKerry's recent speech. The Russians have violated treaties as long as treaties have been made with Russia.........
Yawn!
Let Obama, and Cameron enforce it themselves.
It will be the Charge of the Light in the Loafers Brigade.
It’s like watching a chess board that a World War is being played on with the opening moves having been made decades ago.
Shades and memories of World War I as opposed to World War II as the latest moves are likely to bring Turkey into the conflict and having the Arab states taking sides against each other based on whether they are Sunni or Shiite.
And at it’s very roots of the conflict are economics and control of resources.
And more than anything else, here we sit, I wonder if the White House and the Congress are deep into a fantasy about the real world or whether they are hoping for a conflict to occur so as to distract everyone’s attention from the ongoing disaster of their internal policies?
Maybe not for the U.S. but what is UK's obligation?
It is Clinton’s fault.
This was a garbage agreement that had no basis in reality....But I bet Clinton thought it would make him look real statesman-like at the time.
If you think we've lived up to our treaties....ask an Indian.
Maybe we can send a gay dance troop.
Ukraine made pretty stupid mistake by trusting Russia and US. Should have kept the nukes - would become very handy right about now.
I thought of that also. But that was when there were men running the US and not sissies. I am not worried about this one couuntry bringing us to war. 0% chance of that happening with Obama in charge. My concern is longer term implications for the world seeing the US do nothing.

Technically it is very easy to not go to war. Just don’t do it........

Will the libtards be in the streets protesting Der Fuhrer?
Pfft...
Beyond that, the Budapest Memorandum doesn't even obligate us (or anyone else) to go to war. It merely states that, in the event of an act of aggression against Ukraine, the signatory states will "seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine."
Just a hunch, but I have a feeling that any "United Nations Security Council action" would not get very far.
