The BBC drama controller has said there are not enough gay characters on TV.
Ben Stephenson, who is himself gay, called on writers to come forward with more stories which focus on homosexuality.
The comments were made during the BBCs Reflect and Represent talk at New Broadcasting House on Monday which aims to discuss the Corporations future vision.

Yeah, you do that; what with the TV license, nobody at BBC has to worry about not getting paid no matter who isnt looking. There arent enough gay characters on TV says BBC drama boss who promises to commission more homosexual storylines
Plus celebrity, Miley Cyrus, and Kardashian fatigue.
None of these things are interesting or funny.
Last time I checked: gays were over represented.
The BBC can be as inefficient as they like too
Could Dr Who and Sherlock possibly get more gay, with Jack Harkness or the green alien woman and Mark Gatiss (not to mention the Sherlock/John hints)respectively? I think not!
There’s no reason why we can’t all assume that many characters are gay but too polite to shove it in our faces every five minutes.
I would accept more homosexuals on the boobtoob if they replace all the politicians on the toob.
Netflix, Hulu, and the others are going to see some new growth over there.
Are you kidding me? I do not know about British television, but every new sitcom now-a-days seems to have some gay character on it. They make up 3.4% of the U.S. population according to Gallup; they’re vastly over-represented on television today.
3.4% is way way way overstated too. Besides they probably included LGTBQPOPP etc etc in that.
Because Gays control the entire entertainment industry.

I remember “Six Feet Under” where one of the leads was an undertaker who ‘happened’ to be gay.
If the promo for the show would have played it up, I probably would have bypassed it, but they ‘slid it in’ (hmmmm) and it was somewhat acceptable...a little to much PDA but not as bad as most of the trash they throw at us.
Even “Archie Bunker” had a twinkle toes on now and then but Arch knew how to handle them....
Didn’t the line “don’t let him stand to close to that open window” come from Arch? maybe Al Bundy - another great American... <: <:
You’re right. The Gallup figure was the combined figure for all Americans who “identify” as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transsexual.
It's impossible if gayness is a natural, genetic property. There are no genes for controlling the entertainment industry. Gays would be equally spread among all industries and all walks of life.
I can even understand if gays are more artistic, more touchy-feely, and that makes them good actors. But the entertainment industry is not controlled by actors. It is controlled by businessmen. Why would they be gay, but managers of other industries wouldn't?
On the other hand, if gay behavior is a choice then definitely it makes sense. Once an executive enters the gay atmosphere he either embraces it and becomes one of them, with great career perspectives, or rejects it... and has to look for a job elsewhere.
Once gays get into positions of power, they help promote others until they build a network that impossible to root out.
Ahh! The gay thing is worn out.
They need to run the Che Guevara show...
Or the Anton Lavey hour..
Or something to do with bestiality or pedophilia...
Same ol’ stale perversion and twisted values, day in and day out!
It is NOT impossible to cleanse a perverted organization of dominating homosexuals. I would suggest that you plug into the Wayback Machine Munich, on 30.6.1934...
It is something that all the Socialists who can no longer hear their own farts might consider.
Not enough? Could have fooled me.
