I could picture him doing this as a spoof but it was done for REAL.

One of the many fine wines of 7/11.

Well, it does have an unusual flavor, smoother than Boone’s Farm and without the aftertaste of Annie Greensprings.

Notice that James Mason never actually sampled the stuff.

That commercial led to my downfall. I gradually became a wino after following Mason’s example. Mixed with a little club soda, it became a hit at my many parties (down under the bridge.)

If you’ll hold the gun on me and force me to take a swig of Wild Irish Rose, I’ll hold the gun on you while you drink some.

Commercial was made in 1964. James Mason was desperate for the $10,000 from the commercial to pay for his divorce from his incredibly annoying wife. I’ve seen her on the tube. She was enough to make you drink...but not Thunderbird.

Now he’s living in a van down by the river.
Bottle of wine, truly divine.
When ya gonna let me get sober.

Having sampled a bottle or three (ahum) when I was a yut, I agree it had an unusual flavor ... but it was cheap. Then along came Boons Farm and we all became real wine connoisseurs.

Man, that’s hilarious! I tried that stuff back in high school - once! It was even worse than Maddog....

Well, you gotta admit...it is rather exclusive, requiring a special trip to skid row to obtain.
Not available in ordinary package stores!

Did you ever try Smokey Mountain wines? They were around for a couple of years back in the 70’s.
