12 o’clock High should have been in the top 10, imho.

“Wings” (1928), which won Best Picture, should be on that list. I would also ad “Flying Down to Rio” (1933).

"Hells Angels" (1930) Produced and directed by Howard Hughes. It started production as a silent film and ended up being one of the first "talkies" - contains some excellent air to air combat footage. Not a great film, but can be viewed here: https://archive.org/details/HellsAngels1930JeanHarlow
My grandmother would not let my Dad go see it in the theater because of the profanity in the title.

“Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines”
It was the movie that got me interested in aviation at a young age.

What a joke. Not one vote for the best airplane movie ever, “Flight of the Phoenix” (1966, with Jimmy Stewart, not the vomitous remake with Dennis Quaid)

"633 Squadron" featuring the DH Mosquito, the most awesome warplane ever.
"Dive Bomber" - pretty hokey plot and acting, but the great scenes with those beautiful prewar USN paint schemes make up for it.

I know it was all CGI, but check out “Deep Blue World” if you want to see some good Battle of Britain action.

The best “airplane” movie should be presented to all college freshmen: “The Aviator.” It shows why you can have freedom and innovation or regulation, but not both.
1. The Aviator
2. Airplane!
3. anything else.
