during a traffic stop because he thought the man was grabbing a rifle from the bed of his pickup truck. How could the LEO think it's a rifle, if he never ever saw a rifle?

How could the LEO think it's a rifle, if he never ever saw a rifle? He doesn't really have to think it's a rifle; he merely needs to feel threatened.

How could the LEO think it's a rifle, if he never ever saw a rifle? When you're trained to think of the public as the enemy, any action is a threat.

For that matter, who carries a rifle in the bed of their pickup? I can't think of a better place to get it wet, dinged up, and full of crap.
Either the story is BS, or the cop doesn't have any common sense.

Any cane/twig are very, very dangerous. @ 70 y.o. the perp, probably couldn't swing very well.
By using (Diane Fineswine's methodology); it look very, very deadly..the cane had evil intent.
