This is kindergarten. The teacher has to know where all of these little children are.
Just have one of these. Just one.
Yes. It’s really quite simple.
When I was in grade school every classroom had it’s own single bathroom for the kiddies. Was easier and no kids running the hall when they needed to go. Only when we got to Junior high and high did schools not have this. I seriously thought all Elementary schools had such things but only moderns ones it would seem have this. Is easier for the teacher.
Plus when I was in grade school all Kindergarten teachers had an aid to assist them. With kids that young it really is needed. Now after this I believe it should be mandatory.
In this day and time, it's not surprising the little kids would say they were having sex - they are told about sex at that young age now in school, so why not have sex ‘cause everybody does it, right? They wouldn't see anything wrong with what they were doing. I don't know about the rest of you, but I was playing with dolls at that age and had no idea about sex. Actually, I'm surprised it wasn't two males or two girls since they are taught about two mommies and two daddies and how fine that is. s/
Our “old” elementary school had a bathroom but it was in a cubby area outside of the classroom. They tore that ES down and built a new one. The bathrooms are down the hall from the kindergarten classes. No aides.... but the special needs classes have them. If this bathroom was in a hallway away from the classroom... I can easily see how the teacher didn’t find them right away. On a side note, in our ES.. teachers aren’t allowed to leave the classroom unless another teacher/office helper.. is called first and stands in the classroom. At no time are the classes allowed to be unsupervised even for a few minutes.
I know a person who adopted six year old twin girls who had been abused by their parents and grandparents. At age six they were having sex with each other. They’re now 11 and they’ve always had to have loves on their doors to keep them apart at night.
Not really an issue, but I believe I read this correctly.
is it an in-room bathroom or one they need to get a pass and go down the hall for?
because when I was a kid more than one kid could go to the bathroom.
I don’t think “most of us” do that at 15 either
Because it was a boy and girl. Boy-boy and girl-girl are ok and need to be emphasized even at 5-6 years old.
This event happened on September 30 and they are just now finding a resolution?
This will be in court before all is said and done.
Well then, fine. We don't know from this article how many children she had in the class. Does the fact that she didn't realize that two out of ? weren't sitting before her at story-time [or whatever] justify suspension?
I think this is an example of the impossible expectations our socialist educational (and I use that word lightly) system places on teachers.
“We’d ALL do that ... wouldn’t we ? “
Maybe she thought the boy was sexually abusing the girl?
No. From the article:
"Mascio immediately reported the incident to Principal Matthew Mazzoni, who in turn advised the Police Department and the state Department of Youth and Family Services." The teacher was immediately suspended, while police investigated the case."
Nowdays I suspect kids do just about anything. Back then, maybe a few.
To be fair, GeronL, you -- none of us -- can know that's true. We were kids! Who knows what was going on "back in the day"? We don't know how many times our teachers laughed over lunch or after-work drinks. "... and it was 2:30 before I even realized Billy was in the library reading Dr. Seuss!"
There maybe more this event than is being reported at this time.

The superintendent added the public reporting of this matter is neither complete
nor accurate though she did not elaborate or release additional information.

The day of the incident was particularly busy as the class was undergoing state testing,
Rheault said. Mascio had to usher kids in and out of the room so they could take the tests, she said.
In our day we all sat in desks in a row in our classroom. Not so today. I volunteer in my kids’ school. There are not only tables and chairs but stations with educational activities. The children have ‘expectations, and they rotate in an orderly way and are ‘expected’ to complete each activity each week. The result is a lot of moving around, back and forth from station to station. The children are not fixed at one desk, as we were, and the teacher supervises as she goes from group to group. These teachers are amazing. I’ve never seen a class out of order, just dynamic activity.
