Deanna, especially in the first season or so, was excellent for stating the damned obvious.

When an enemy starts firing at the Enterprise - “I sense hostility from the Romulans.” Great insight there, sweet cheeks.

I see you “get” what I’m talking about.

I also didn’t like Captain Janeway in the Voyager series because I would have fired her from the very first episode. She has a whole ship of about a hundred people, and could have used the alien device to send 99 of them home and keep one of them there to try their best to maintain the alien device. Instead, she risks the lives of all 100, losing about half of them along the way, to get home. As I watched the series I would say, “She’s fired” for whatever mistake, and it drove my wife crazy.

I kept firing Deanna Troi as well, because she could have used her betazoid telepathy powers to read the minds of whoever was causing trouble but didn’t do it most of the time. “wrong species” or some baloney — then what the hell was she good for, other than bitchy meddling? They should have tossed her character in the first season.
