Fuddy wasn’t testifying or disclosing anything to anyone, so if she had a secret, she was keeping it.

You don't kill someone with a secret who has disclosed that secret. That just compounds your problem. You kill someone who possesses that secret undisclosed so that it surely will not be disclosed.

Fuddy was named as a defendant in a law suit.

Now she can’t be compelled to testify.

Exactly. So the message must be, to everyone else that has a secret: “Go tell your secret right NOW, so we won’t kill you.”
