of her son Adam's 26 victims who hope to sue her estate
The estate of the mother of Newtown school shooter Adam Lanza is worth roughly $64,000, according to a Connecticut attorney who inventoried her finances, which is a devastating blow for victims of the massacre who are seeking damages over the shooting that left 27 people dead and a small town in shock.
Nancy Lanza, the mother of the disturbed shooter who bought him multiple firearms and taught him to shoot when he was just a small child, had five bank accounts worth a total of $60,000, according to an inventory of her finances filed in probate court earlier this month by attorney Samuel Starks.
The home Nancy Lanza shared with her son - where Adam Lanza fatally shot her as she was laying in her bed - has a fair market value of about $360,000. However, Lanza owes more than $400,000 on the mortgage of the home, so her estate is 'underwater' for about $40,000 on the Yogananda Street property.
Other than the home and bank accounts, Nancy Lanza's only other assets is a jewelery collection valued at about $5,000.
The inventory of Nancy Lanza's finances was first reported by the Hartford Courant. According to the paper, the 3,100-square-foot home - that has been vacant since the December 14, 2012, shooting - was appraised for more than $523,000.
However, real estate agents say it's unclear what the house could actually sell for once potential buyers realize it was the home of the man responsible for the second most-deadly mass-shooting in U.S. history....

But, apparently, this lady’s 64,000 dollars is important.
I know when I lose a loved one in a mass shooting the first thing I’m thinking is, “Yeah baby! Civil suit. I’m rich!”
These families must be devastated that there’s so little to gain from a mass shooting.
Great BIG ol’ controversy about THAT one.
I know a guy who drives a BMW with the same problem. The appearance of wealth doesn’t equal wealth.
Plus, there are numerous discrepancies with the sales of the homes belonging to the families of the victims. One of the victims fathers has won the CT state lottery. Twice.
$64,000 in cash in bank accounts isn’t exactly poor.
No one is going to want to buy THAT house.
You have to admit that the State of Connecticut has armed Guards posted at the Capitol Building to protect the legislators and everyone else in the building from being attacked by crazed gunmen, but they declare their schools gun free zones and refuse to allow even the most minimal of armed protection for children who, by law, are forced to be locked up in these unprotected facilities for 6 to 8 hours a day.
The State of Connecticut and the School Districts were clearly negligent. They owed a duty to protect these charges and they deliberately and wantonly failed to do so.
I would have to award punitive damages.
If I could, I would direct the punitive damages to be paid to fund armed security to all schools in Connecticut and to purchase weapons for distribution to NRA trained teachers.
The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.
What? Rick has disappeared you say? But what about all the interviews this hero did after the massacre????
What you say? He didn't do any??? But he was the hero janitor. Surely every cable news show would have been fighting for an exclusive with Rick.
What you say??? They weren't? They didn't??
That seems strange
Well, I'm sure Gene Rosen can figure this out .
What absolute suckers American low information voters are. They even elected a FRAUD TWICE! LOL!
Especially the ones from Harvard!
Now tell me. Why do these families need anything????????????????? Must have been either the most expensive funerals in the history of the world or HUSH money. Maybe Obama should send us all a big check every time we lose a family member
...
I agree that a rational person would say that Connecticut failed in their duty to protect, and they advertised that the schools were unprotected, and they protected other vulnerable areas adequately.
So, I believe there’s a case that could be made.
It’s a case that could be won in Texas but probably lost anywhere in the Northeast. Northeasterners believe guns in schools are the evil...not murderers in schools.
HAHAHAHA! Tell that to your Ivy League betters who run the Fed and our Government.
I’m sure that in the fine print of accepting this money that the families agreed not to sue the School District, the Newtown Police, the state police, etc.
They don’t want it to come out in court that while the Newtown police were chasing a parent into the woods and waiting for the state police to arrive, they were hearing all those shots coming from the school as Lanza was entering the second classroom.
None of her property belongs to the state. There are relatives and it goes to them.
The idea that they can sue her estate is some lawyer looking to collect a fee. Since when can you confiscate an estate?
As will I.
