[S]hot dead by female police officer 'who mistook Nintendo Wii controller ... for a gun'

Police in Georgia on Friday served a warrant for a probation violation at the trailer park home of a man and his son, a 17-year-old aspiring Marine. In the process of serving the warrant on the boy's father, an officer fatally shot the teen.

His crime: according to his attorney, he did nothing more than answer the door while holding a controller of a Nintendo Wii.

Police in Euharlee, Georgia - about 50 miles northwest of Atlanta - however, claim that Christopher Roupe pointed a gun at the female officer when he opened the door, which prompted her to fire a live round at the aspiring military man.

No witnesses reported seeing the boy holding any weapons, and authorities won't say whether a weapon was found at the scene.

'It just doesn't add up,' Cole Law, who is representing the Roupe family, told wsbtv.com.

As for the claim that Roupe was holding a gun, Law says he's seen no evidence supporting the officer's claim.

'We don't know where that statement came from. The eyewitnesses on the scene clearly state that he had a Wii controller in his hand. He heard a knock at the door. He asked who it was, there was no response so he opened the door and upon opening the door he was immediately shot in the chest,' Law said.....

Renee Vance, Christopher’s aunt is reported to have said,

“She immediately fired a bullet into the boy’s chest and killed him, The officer gave him ‘no warning’ to drop the controller before taking his life.The 13-year-old sister of Mr. Roupe, who was crying, went to hug and/or comfort her dying brother when the female cop pointed the gun at her and told her to ‘shut up.’”

Tia Howard, a neighbor who lives a few doors down, said they ran to the home after they heard the shot.

“When we got up there, they said there was a Wii remote in his hand and she shot him.”

Most of them are not normal enough to carry a weapon.

As with all the other murders by cops, don't expect anything except," We have completed our investigation and we find that the Officer in question acted in accordance with Department policy and guidelines. The shooting was justified and the investigation is now closed."

They know that if it’s a Wii controller no matter what it looks like that it will be bad for them.

I just wonder why we keep hearing “Wii controller” in the media and from the lawyer, but the possibility that the Wii controller looked like a gun is never mentioned.

If she didn’t know it was a Wii controller, she might well describe it as a BB gun.

I think it’s certainly possible that the kid had a black Wii gun in his hand.

It’s also possible that he had a standard Wii controller in his hand that was black.

Or he just had a regular Wii controller in his hand and the cop is nuts.

I think in any case, if he had something black in his hand, that will be enough to “excuse” the shooting.

It’s awful, but that’s the way it usually goes.

While I was living in South Sacramento right after my first daughter was born, in the middle of the night a bunch of Asian kids (Not being racist, in South Sac there were a lot of Home invasions buy Asians) came banging on my door, I asked who no answer so I lay right in my entry way with my Ar-15 and Waited. Thank god they left. But if they hadn’t they would have had a bad night. So I get what your saying.
