They now want to live somewhere else, but spent all of their money on this last move.

I know the feeling.

Well, at least the fearful, but brave, police officer got home safe and alive.

Columbus police said they are investigating the incident. They will interview witnesses and determine whether or not the officer followed procedure.

A total waste of time as the decision had been made even before the shooting of this dog, “Followed standard procedures to the letter”, case closed.

called to the home because a moving truck was blocking traffic.

Yeah - that's a real "stressful situation", right up there with a hostage taking and armed robbery.

This guy's got no business being a cop, no more sense than he displayed.

Nine shots to kill the dog? That’s impressive! I hope this officer gets sued.

"He [officer] said that he felt like his life was in jeopardy"

So why didnt' he just tell the owners to come get their dog and put it in the house? The "life was in danger" canard is total BS - when was the last time you read about a full grown man being killed by a family dog?

Cops are killing dogs for being dogs.

Imagine that instead of domesticating dogs, man had domesticated grizzly bears.

Instead of a boxer, these folks had a 1000 lb. grizzly bear.

In this situation, where shooting the bear might just make him angry, what would the proper procedure be?

I'm gonna guess it would be to slowly back away in a nonthreatening way to a safe distance & call for assistance, either from the owner of a bear or from headquarters.

Why can't this be standard procedure for dealing with dogs when the police call is for a minor disturbance or other nonviolent situation?

I do not remember the last time I read about a letter carrier having a problem with a dog that required putting the dog down. Usually they just throw the dog a milk bone and go on with their work.
Cops on the other hand, apparently actively seek out dogs to kill them.

A well used excuse... I felt threatened. By Fluffy the, the vacant eyed, neutered, fat old retriever. I think it is part of an effort to desensitize citizens to cops drawing and using guns on a moment's notice. These posts should show photos of the dogs to drive home the evil of these guys and the police state that is surely coming.

Didn’t the Khmer Rouge shoot family dogs which lived under the stilted huts allowing that said Khmer Rouge could sit under the huts to hear what families were saying about the government/breaking some miniscule law?

These trigger happy “police” officers are working on their intimidation skills, but need to bone up on sneaky.

You explain to the child that the police shot his dog and that is why you never call the police for anything. You explain that you must own a dog so that the police don’t feel it necessary to shoot one of the family. When they want to shoot someone, they will, but a dog is the priority target.

This is to prepare us to be good, passive sheep. After they kill a few thousand dogs and old deaf men with a TV remote, the public will be well-trained sheep.

” They will interview witnesses and determine whether or not the officer followed procedure.”

That’s the problem, “THE PROCEDURE”. Change the procedure to not shooting dogs.

“He [officer] said that he felt like his life was in jeopardy”.

WHAT? Did the dog have a GUN?

What a bunch of “pussies” these cops are. Afraid of a dog.

Dealt with home owners dogs my whole life and was only nipped twice. Both times by little poodles. Didn’t even break the skin.

I did have a dog charge me once whose owner’s command stopped him in his tracks, at the last second, defusing the situation. I was not “in fear for my life”. I did think the dog was going to attack me. I didn’t have a gun, only a pipe wrench. I had calculated, in my head, the speed of the dog, the distance left for him to close, and the timing of my swing with the pipe wrench. I was going to swing it with all my might at the dog’s head, and if it killed him, so be it. I can’t even admit to being frightened. It was a DOG after all. I had a means of defending myself and at worst would be bitten before I could inflict sufficient injury on the dog to send him back home, yelping off with his tail between his legs.

Now, this cop thought “his life was in jeopardy”? This guy, and all like him, need to find a new line of work. They are way too dangerous to the public safety to be allowed to carry a firearm.

“I can’t wait to kill something”, syndrome.
