Russian spy ship docked in Havana

Havana (AFP) - A Russian warship was docked in Havana Wednesday, without explanation from Communist Cuba or its state media.
The Viktor Leonov CCB-175 boat, measuring 91.5 meters (300 feet) long and 14.5 meters wide, was docked at the port of Havana’s cruise ship area, near the Russian Orthodox Cathedral. The Vishnya, or Meridian-class intelligence ship, which has a crew of around 200, went into service in the Black Sea in 1988 before it was transferred seven years later to the northern fleet, Russian media sources said.

Iranian grad student at Georgia Tech burns self with Molotov cocktail, media yawns
The FBI says a Georgia Tech graduate student was burned by a Molotov cocktail at his apartment in the 200 block of 10th Street, not far from Piedmont Park.
Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said Saamer Akhshabi suffered third-degree burns over 90 percent of his body. Lighter fluid and a charred pillow and mattress were found inside the apartment, along with the Molotov cocktail and several plastic bottles filled with gasoline and kerosene.
The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, along with the Atlanta Police Department and Atlanta Fire-Rescue are working to investigate the circumstances behind the incident. Homeland Security was also notified of the explosion.

The latest issue of Al-Qaeda’s Inspire magazine contains an article about using car bombs in U.S. cities as well as abroad during election seasons, both presidential and congressional, as well as on Christmas and New Years Eve.

Two Chicago landmarks are called out by name as suggested car bomb targets for al Qaeda sympathizers in a newly-released Inspire magazine, the publication considered required reading for American jihadists.

Outsider Gets No. 2 Al Qaeda Post, a First for Terror Group
A Member of a so-called al Qaeda “affiliate” group has for the first time ascended to a leadership position in the terrorist group founded by Osama bin Laden, CIA Director John Brennan said this week.
In remarks on Tuesday to the Council on Foreign Relations that went unnoticed amid the hubbub over an escalating feud between the agency and the Senate Intelligence Committee, Brennan said that the new No. 2 is Nasir Abdel Karim al-Wuhayshi, head of the Yemen-based Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
Wuhayshi, a 40ish Yemeni who had been either the “personal secretary” or “personal assistant” to bin Laden at the time of the 9-11 attacks, was mentioned as a leading candidate for the long-vacant post in an NBC News report last month on the secret al Qaeda search for a second-in-command.
Word that Wuhayshi had gotten the job and become potential successor to Ayman al-Zawahri came when Brennan responded to a question about the changing nature of Islamic extremism at the Washington, D.C., event, which was hosted by Andrea Mitchell.

“Abd Alluhud tells his story driving to his farm, taking the regular route near Idlib and what he sees was so horrific; hundreds of bodies on the side of the road, all decapitated”, so reports Sister Hatune Dogan to Shoebat.com after she came back from her mission to aid Christians in Turkey where she interviewed several Christian refugees who came out of Syria.
Terrified of what he witnessed Alluhud later decided to take the long route to avoid the horrific scene. What he saw was the same: hundreds more bodies lined the road with dogs consuming the carcasses of slaughtered victims for whom the jihadist group Da’ish would dig a small pit, slice the neck and drain the neck in the pit making sure the bodies are bowing in the form of submission.
