Canadian researchers have confirmed what most people suspected all along: that internet trolls are archetypal Machiavellian sadists.
In a survey conducted by the group of psychologists, people who partake in so-called trolling online showed signs of sadism, psychopathy, and were Machiavellian in their manipulation of others and their disregard for morality.
The researchers defined online trolling as “the practice of behaving in a deceptive, destructive, or disruptive manner in a social setting on the Internet” for no purpose other than their pleasure. …

I always thought that “troll” was a reference to “trolling”, as in fishing. Looking for a bite.
That’s the origin.
The MSM meme will be that this describes right-to-lifers, heterosexuals, Tea Partiers, global warming sceptics, evangelicals, observant Catholics, whites and men.

Think of the possibilities here. Trolling is supposedly a sign of a severe mental problem. If they could actually establish that then all that remains is to redefine trolling as disputing whatever PC dogma is being discussed and voila! You have an entirely new weapon against dissident speech.
Sounds very USSR-like indeed. Anyone who couldn’t understand the “benefits of communism” or rejected atheism in favor of religion got labeled “mentally ill” and was sent to the special doctors.
I personally know two men who found their current wives on the internet. Both of the women were married to other men at the time. I’ve met the two women and I’m not sure it’s the man or the woman who got the short end of the stick. I know both men henpecked and do what they’re told. What these men who think they’re so smart aren’t really smart enough to see is, the women let them THINK they’re in charge.
I’m sure there are those who find their true loves on the internet. I just don’t understand why they can’t meet people like it used to be done. The internet should be used to get sex and leave it at that. Don’t get married! It was just sex!

Trolling or not, most people pay for their internet access. If they want to troll, I say let ‘em troll as long as they’re paying their bill.
And all this time I thought they were just typical Democrats.
