No. In short, Helms had a plan (whether you agreed with it or not). He was always working to that end goal. Cruz just rolls grenades in a room. While I’m all about shaking things up, that’s all he’s about. He’s not a leader and has no plan short of the moment. I know it is not the majority opinion here, but I am singularly unimpressed with Cruz. He’s way too frat-boy.

"...He (Helms) was always working to that end goal..." Yes, and he was a master parliamentarian who could use procedure rules to tie his opposition in knots. Helms was the most conservative man in the Senate and yet managed to get reelected time and again in the least conservative Old South state. The 1984 Senate race matched the two-term Helms vs. the two-term Governor Jim Hunt. Hunt was favored but Helms won with the help of strategy masters Tom Ellis and Carter Wrenn and the strong Reagan reelection campaign. That NC Senate race was the most expensive in US history up to that time even over those in more populous states.

No, it's just an uninformed opinion.

Is he a frat boy or a pool boy? You can’t be both.
