(Reuters) - Actress Ellen Page, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in "Juno," came out as a lesbian on Friday at a Las Vegas conference for gay teens.
"I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission," the 26-year-old actress said in a speech that drew roaring support from an audience at the Time to Thrive conference sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign.

A TV ad for a candy bar (I think) played seconds ago during the Olympics. A female trophy presenter hands flowers to a victorious male, it is staged similar to an Olympics concept. The recipient then turns to another male and their cheeks touch each other in a “kissing” moment. Message being sent?
Is there a poll out there yet, asking the American public, in their infinite wisdom, whether we are more accurately slouching towards Sodom, or towards Gomorrah?
Maybe there’s an app for that. Let me tweet my feelings about it, and send the poll along with some genital selfies to my FaceBook friends.
2) Her parents originally gave her a hyphenated name ("Philpotts-Page"), so it's not surprising (why the concern about the illustrious Philpotts name dying out, anyway?).
3) She did put out a momentary gay vibe in her Cisco Systems commercials. It's hard to explain but they're probably on YouTube, so you can judge for yourself.
4) Today, she's gay. Tomorrow, who can say?
Smart career move. Now she’ll be seen as a “brave victim,” even though her career will skyrocket now, since Hollywood will bend over backwards to hire her in order not to appear homophobic. She’ll get all kinds of publicity, praise, sympathy and attention.
Now, if she’d come out in favor of traditional marriage, and refused to apologize and grovel afterwards, her career would be over.
Yet she’ll be called “brave.”
