Law enforcement officials in Texas announced this evening that they found a body believed to be that of a woman who went missing nearly a month ago after returning from a two-year trip around the world.

Leanne Hecht Bearden, 33, was last seen January 17 when she told her in-laws in Garden Ridge near San Antonio that she was going for a walk. She has not been heard from since.

The woman and her husband, Joshua Bearden, were staying with his parents after returning from their travels earlier this month.

City Police Chief Donna O'Conner said just after 1pm Thursday, they received a call from a Garden Ridge homeowner saying that he had found a body in a wooded area near his residence, CNN reported.

Officers who responded to the scene came upon what is now believed to be Leanne Bearden's body.

Police are not disclosing the cause of death pending the results of the autopsy that will be performed on the remains.....

I’m off to look, the wife said she read it there as we were watching this story on the news.

Be back...

No she and hubby went on a two year trip together.

That might be enough to send most husbands over the edge.

Not quite as bad as two weeks in Orlando with four sisters-in-law and their families...in July.

In this report it states it an apparent suicide.

I don’t really know the rules on posting links and don’t have the time to read up on it so if this is forbotten, please delete it.

For what it’s worth in the commentary section:

njuser, Marlboro, United States, 32 minutes ago

“Investigators said a man discovered the body at 12:18 p.m. in a wooded area behind his home. Sources tell Eyewitness News that Bearden was found hanging in a tree.”

Prayers for the family... when I saw this on FNC, something didn’t seem quite right.

I am trying to imagine how you hang yourself from a tree. You would have to climb the tree and then jump. Or find a ladder in the woods. And bring a rope with you and make it the right length.

Not to mention that hanging isn’t usually the choice of women when suiciding.

Well, she had a backpack with her. Could the rope have been in there? You are in a wooded area.. so you find an old log to use as a “jump”. Unfortunately, if someone really wants to end their life... they can and will.

I hope her family in Georgia request an independent autopsy as early on it appears that they are leaning toward suicide.

LEO search efforts go off in a different direction and yet she is found hanging from a tree right out in the open in another direction???.

Thanks everyone

Any idea why they took the trip? Was it on her bucket list and she was ill?
We’re they trying to find themselves? Had she been fighting depression?

She had a back pack. Why for a short walk unless to carry something. Like a rope

You are absolutely right about finding a way. As a former nurse in an ER setting, I can’t argue with that. But I will be interested in what comes out later about this. I saw the results of many “hangings” but all were men. Women were invariably overdose.

And Tylenol was the “drug” of choice. A very bad choice, because if you don’t do it right - you are in a world of hurt if you live.

Didn’t make it through all the pics, but I noticed a lack of search and rescue dogs.

Several commenters there believe she hung herself—meaning suicide.

Hanging from a tree in the woods is actually a common form of a suicide. Cases like this are in the news from time to time.

this would have been a done deal if they had used search raccoons instead of search dogs
