Gmail is one of the better programs for letting these services from taking you. It automatically disables them. You have to click view images for these to work.

You have to click view images for these to work. Be nice if that's so, but the article says that this program can tell a sender when someone has opened an email you've sent them. You don't normally need to view images to do that.
