Yeah, their anthem kind of has a snappy tune to it. I keep thinking of Nikolai Volkov, the wrestler in the WWF who sang it at the beginning of his matches.

Heh, I admit it. I have always fancied myself a Cold Warrior type of person, but...the Soviet national anthem always sounded good to me.

The lyrics were written by Sergei Mikhailov, who also wrote the Soviet national anthem.
Music is by Alexander Alexandrov, who is deservedly famous as the moving spirit behind the world famous A.V Alexandrov Twice Red Bannered Russian Army Ensemble.
The past and present continue on in Russia. It was the leading republic of the Soviet Union and gained sovereignty in 1990.
