As with everything Rooskies do, the opening ceremonies have a real clunky feel to them. I know they’re trying to put their best foot forward, but it’s still backward as an oxcart at the Indianapolis 500, lol!
Russian women are beautiful... Russian haters will never like them. I’ve known lots of them and they’re intelligent, sweet, passionate and very opinionated! Just don’t marry one. :)
The athletes all go to their seats....and then the show begins.
Have your popcorn and No Doz at the ready...and enjoy!

It went out once. Someone relit the torch with a cigarette lighter. Its been gone where no torch has gone before!
Unless your kids were dissidents, or had wealth or businesses they didn’t want to turn over to the state or a crony...in which case your kids will be poisoned, imprisoned or killed.
Putin is a thug, no different than Al Capone or Pablo Escobar.

What was the deal at the very beginning with the islands and stuff?
Americans are provincial. The Russian flag colors are the reverse of those on the Dutch flag - and all the Pan-Slavic colors are based on it.
What do we expect from people who can’t be bothered to learn about another country’s history and culture? Of course the show didn’t show Russian/Soviet flaws! Every nation has an idealized account of its history.
And Russia’s spiritual, cultural and scientific contributions to mankind are obvious. They are a great nation and take great pride in who they are no matter how much outsiders belittle them.
With these Olympic Winter Games, Sochi has now established itself as a world-class sports and resort city.
I haven’t watched a single commercial — never do — but sorry you had to be subjected to that.
Alexandrov is better known for his leading the famed Red Army Choir, whose music is simply outstanding! His son Boris wrote the anthem that became the national anthem of Transnistria.
Wasn’t that disgusting? An apple-pie-hot-dogs-American-flag type of old roots company like Chevrolet showing us “new love, and it’s too homes, getting fake-married.
Disgusting.

Am at my brother’s house and while it’s a 66 incher, he doesn’t spring for any thing technologically advanced....ugh.
Am watching this on a very big, wide screen so saw it in all it’s glory...
You are right...apple pie it wasn’t.
Could you, perhaps, change that to “some” Americans are provincial, please?
Hear, Hear!
They played “Moscow Nights”, anyone who listened to Radio Moscow will know that song.
Neither do I — just walk away.
The 2018 Games are the first Olympic Winter Games for South Korea. They hosted the 1988 Olympic Summer Games.
I was struck by the difference between the Rooskie extravaganza compared to the Chinese one the Chinese even featured hordes of people in an almost mechanical display. This was theatrical, with individuals. Some of it was gorgeously beautiful, dark, but beautiful. The troika was wonderful.
I was surprised and pleased to see Valentina Tereshkova one of eight carrying the Olympic flag. Most Americans dont remember her, but she was the first woman in space and she was a heroine of my teenage self.
Ugliest uniforms: Taiwan

Well said. I’ve watched the opening ceremony and have just read through the comments. Some sound like absolute haters and that is NOT what the Olympics represent, imho. Others seem to have not a shred of respect for the culture of Russia. The music was divine.
I was not at all comfortable with having to listen to the commentary by NBC and their juvenile slights. I was discouraged to see one commercial after another attempting to push this ‘we are the world’ theme, that had nothing to do with the spirit of Olympic athletes and everything to do with trying to suggest we here in America are one big happy family. Just pathetic, but the drones will swallow it up.
I completely enjoyed the opening ceremony and thought they did an excellent job with every facet of the performance.
It was nice to see the flame light up without incident.
I thought Edward Snowden lighting the flame was a little “in your face”......
