who do you think kids in high school listen more to these days?? Led Zeppelin or the Beatles??

As a high school kid (who graduated in the year that the movie Dazed and Confused is set), I listened to Led Zep more. I even agree with the great line from Fast Times at Ridgemont High: When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV. But I grew up.

I do. Born 55.
As for Choctaw Bingo I prefer Ray Wylie Hubbard’s version. I saw him first in 72 with Leon Russell.
And how can you talk about any guitarist without JJ Cale mention? :)

Generational obsessions, passing fads.

You'll die and memories of Led Zeppelin will die with you!

Some posters here want to go back to Miller and Dorsey

Everything after that is jungle or pinko music

Saw Hubbard a year or so ago. Excellent.
I grew up in Tulsa. Choctaw Bingo lyrics are great.

Lived in Boston for awhile in the 70’s. At first they made fun of some of my music but by the time I left they all had copies of Viva Terlingua.

The Beatles could take on new styles and remake themselves. It was quite impressive. And what the styles they took on didn't much resemble rock cliches (though they may have helped create some cliches for their successors).

Nowadays this is pretty routine. Madonna or David Bowie or Justin Timberlake or Britney Spears always "reinvent" themselves by changing their clothes or hair style or make up (the music video era made this sort of thing very familiar), but in the 60s it was pretty powerful to go through the major changes the Beatles took on and encompass the different kinds of music that they did.

You’re not that alone here. Was listening to some Warren Z just the other night; as well as Elvis C., Quicksilver and a bit of Golden Earring thrown in for good measure. Dire Straits did some good tunes to end the evening but you can’t go wrong with some Willy or Asleep at the Wheel.

Man, what a great list. I listen to all that stuff and play much of it on my guitar. Yet The Beatles are still my favorite.

I chose the wrong song- I was thinking of Paperback Writer which wasn’t on an album, Taxman was.
