It was 50 years ago today that The Beatles landed in America for the first time. Could any other group ever hope to top the talents of these beloved moptops? Well ...Yeah, yeah, yeah! Check out 11 bands that I think took the Fab Fours pop revolution and made it even better, way beyond compare

I do. Born 55.
As for Choctaw Bingo I prefer Ray Wylie Hubbard’s version. I saw him first in 72 with Leon Russell.
And how can you talk about any guitarist without JJ Cale mention? :)
You'll die and memories of Led Zeppelin will die with you!
I like Hubbard too..little grittier version but I was giving the writer credit
But like Walker.....he sang them all better than most but wrote little
And was from New York
But I love his voice
Billy Joe best combo...write and sing
Saw Eddie right fore he oded.... what a chopper
I sponsored a Cale show in 77....my bad
Some posters here want to go back to Miller and Dorsey
Everything after that is jungle or pinko music
Saw Hubbard a year or so ago. Excellent.
I grew up in Tulsa. Choctaw Bingo lyrics are great.
Lived in Boston for awhile in the 70’s. At first they made fun of some of my music but by the time I left they all had copies of Viva Terlingua.
Nowadays this is pretty routine. Madonna or David Bowie or Justin Timberlake or Britney Spears always "reinvent" themselves by changing their clothes or hair style or make up (the music video era made this sort of thing very familiar), but in the 60s it was pretty powerful to go through the major changes the Beatles took on and encompass the different kinds of music that they did.
Now how many here have a clue what Im talking about

You’re not that alone here. Was listening to some Warren Z just the other night; as well as Elvis C., Quicksilver and a bit of Golden Earring thrown in for good measure. Dire Straits did some good tunes to end the evening but you can’t go wrong with some Willy or Asleep at the Wheel.
Man, what a great list. I listen to all that stuff and play much of it on my guitar. Yet The Beatles are still my favorite.
“My favorite Beatles song was not on an album”
Ok I’ll bite... Taxman?
“All that dominates my playlists right now but can change...”
On mine this evening...
Randy Newman
Procol Harum
Ten Years After
Rolling Stones
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Traffic
Byrds
Flying Burrito Brothers
Buffalo Springfield
Doobie Brothers
Lady Madonna
Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem!
-PJ
I chose the wrong song- I was thinking of Paperback Writer which wasn’t on an album, Taxman was.
