My friends, I have been playing board games with my geeky friends for the past 2 years and it has opened up a whole new dimension in my life. These are real, physical games with real people.
Twilight Imperium is the best I have found so far, but other great games are Warparty and Avalon: The Resistance. Sometimes I leave a gaming session and my BRAIN is working overtime, planning strategies, reviewing critical moments of the game.
This is my top recommendation for you, my unknown friends: get into gaming. You can find gamers on meetup.com -Pap
I second this. Rediscovered boardgames after my time with war games in the ‘70s and ‘80s. The modern board games are fantastic.
My wife and I tend to enjoy coop style Ameritrash and quite a few Euores as well.
Cool to find a fellow boardgamer on FR.
Happy gaming!
I think I may have played this once but don’t remember.
I did..............once..................1979................or 1978...........or..............
My sister and I have been talking about bringing back board games for whenever I’m on leave, or when the family is out at the cabin.
There’s been a kiosk at the mall selling board games, think I might brave the weekend crowds and go shopping next payday.
Cool vanity.
Once in a while I meet up with some old friends and have Axis and Allies games that get pretty intense.
I agree, used to own a Risk game that I bought in Frankfurt, figured anything having to do w/world conquest should be in German...
A few weeks ago during the Big Freeze my teenagers were stuck at home for several days and (due to some discipline issues) they were without electronics. They played card and board games the entire week and actually enoyed themselves a lot. The wife and I play games with them fairly often.
Hit up your local thrift store or garage sales in the summer. The number of rare and unique boardgames you can find is amazing.
I scored a copy of the hard to find Milton Bradley Dark Tower for 2.00. I had a blast playing it! I was able to then sell it for 300 dollars. Not too bad.

my husband and I, squ ares that we are, play something almost every day...rummy, sequence,or a dice game...we love games...
“Who say Ukraine weak?”
Plain old Chess junkie here, but Risk is a another family favorite.
Monopoly was a fun option for awhile...until the kiddies decided to liven it up by making it a contact sport.
Yes, actual board games. Some are story driven (Arkham Horror is a game using the HP Lovecraft Cthullu theme). We enjoy Steam, a train themed game.
We went a bit overboard and aquired more games than we should have but we will eventually get to all of them.
Others for consideration:
Wooden ships and Iron Men
1830
Acquire
Settlers of Catan
Air Force and the Dauntless expansion
yep. I get it.
and while I don’t play boardgames with friends, I do attend a weekly Texas Hold’em poker game.. it matters little what the game is however, we would have fun playing hearts.
it’s a great time each week to get together, laugh and socialize.
I look forward to it all week long.
Dark Tower was an awesome game, used to play that all the time when I was a kid.
