Administrators at a school in the South Suburbs of Chicago are up in arms over a state law (House Bill 0183) that requires schools to post small signs announcing that guns cannot be carried in schools.
The new law relates to a new concealed-carry license law, reports the SouthtownStar, a suburban newspaper. Schools in Illinois did not allow guns previously. Now, though, schools and churches, government agencies, liquor stores and certain other organizations must post 4-by-6-inch stickers as visible reminders that guns are forbidden on premises.
Many schools in the Chicago area and, presumably, other parts of the state have already posted the small stickers in compliance with state law. Others expect to post them over the next couple weeks.
Some school officials arent happy about the stickers because they contain a very basic image of a gun.
It is bothersome to have to post a sticker of a gun that says, Hey, folks, leave your guns at home, Theresa Nolan, principal of Tinley Park High School, told the SouthtownStar.
Nolan stressed that she is very concerned with safety and security and concerned that, somehow, someone could wrongly interpret an image of a gun emblazoned with the universal sign for prohibiting something.
I think the general public will be alarmed by it and wonder if people have been allowed to bring guns to school in the past, Nolan also fretted.
She said she would prefer something more subtle.

Of course they should be concerned. The sign effectively means “come on in - everyone is UNARMED here.” (Of course the signs are not always 100% correct.)
Maybe they’re upset because the necessity of picture-signs reveals that the schools are overwhelmingly failing to teach people to read. Voters might say, “What are we giving them all this money for, then?”
Zero tolerance policies dictate that even images of guns are banned. So therefore they will be violating their policy in following the law....
Sure, lady, how's this?
You have to be a tenured government employee with an extremely powerful union to understand this stuff, I guess.
Ms. Nolan, get you a** back to work, and get your desk cleaned up.
morons
I wonder who's printing company got that contract......
We're doomed!
Oh!! The rank horror of it!!! A picture of a gun!!!!
Save us! Save us!!!
How about a potato chip or Pop-Tart chewed into the shape of a gun? That's enough to get a student expelled so it should be enough for the general public.
Liberals and guns...it’s just like my wife, who sees a picture of a spider and recoils in horror the same way she does when she sees a real spider!
I can’t even describe how much I hate these people.
Do you think their history classes talk about WW I, WW II, etc? Are there any comprehensive films or texts on these wars that do not include images of soldiers with firearms? For crying out loud, do they have any idea how much they are making their students want a gun? They are making firearms out to be this ultimate bogeyman, these terrible things. You just know at least half those kids want to get a hold of one and see what all the fuss is about.
Guns don’t appear on the signs. Pictures of guns appear on the signs.
Remember, public schools are the places where kids are expelled for eating a pop tart which in someone’s demented mind “resembles” a gun.
I took a basic pistol defense class yesterday. I grew up in NY and it has taken me a long while to get over my fear of guns after 24 years being completely propagandized that somehow guns just randomly kill people all the time.
Even though I was completely rationally as pro second amendment as someone could be and as far from a leftist tool as you could be--it is very hard to reduce this irrational fear that is instilled in you from years of brainwashing.
My point, though, is the instructor and I were talking yesterday and I was kind of explaining to her that getting comfortable around guns has been a long road for me.
She told me she has women come in from the Northeast and someone they know had been robbed or maybe their house was robbed so they have decided to arm themselves.
She said they come in with multiple locks on the gun case, locks on the ammo case...petrified. She said often times she just has to start the class by making them sit and hold the gun while she talks to try and just get them beyond the hysterical level of fear they are at.
Hopefully, this will have the same effect on them as putting a portable hole in a bag of holding.... :)
If someone has that much fear of a gun, I sure wouldn’t want to put a loaded one in their hands until they were over it.
