I want to replace my old, very gunked up Dell, and would like to have W7, if possible
I d/l a program so I would have the start button and the W7 feel. I sometimes hit the windows key and have to deal with it and keep getting it by accident. So, I restart and all is well. lol
I refuse to buy Dell. Had issues with them and their horrid customer service years ago and will never deal with them again. I even tell salespeople not to bother showing me a Dell. I do not do Apple, either.
You should have no need to restart. The “start button” programs I have used work without this and give a Windows 7 feel meaning>>>>>
You get back the start button and desktop and bypass the tiles which are for touch sensitive tablets (no mouse is used) and smart phones where tiles do make sense. But not on a laptop or desktop where a mouse is used.
My HP seemed wonderful too, until you try to get the wireless to work with another wireless device like an iPhone using Airprint. It just wasn’t designed to work seamlessly with an iPad or iPhone. It would not even work with a very good HP laptop I have!
My daughter had a garage sale and I gave it to her to sell for $5. It had extra ink cartridges, all the stuff that came with it, the CD etc. NOT ONE PERSON would even make a low bid on it.
But I understand some people have requirements for Windows. Until I swore off Microsoft in 2008, I had pretty good luck with Sony hardware. It's usually a little more expensive, but I never had any serious failures or problems with my Sony desktops or notebooks. On eBay you can find fairly new Sony boxes with Windows 7 for the price range you specified.
Mine works great with my laptop from downstairs on the wireless. Maybe we are lucky. Then, again, we have no IPads or IPhones or anything Apple. lol I do have a Motorola Xoom, that I LOVE, but have never bothered to try to print from it.
The one I am using may not be as good. I might try a different one. Thank you!!! Hate the Win8 feel and how sensitive it is!
I will tell you a good one...I have used a few/ Try start 8

You should un-install the other program first
I love my HP Pavilion dv7, model 3183cl.
I recently bid $200 for a used one on Ebay and ended up wishing I had bid higher to win. I wouldn't mind having a hot backup in case anything ever goes wrong.
I find that the touchpad works well for me as a mouse replacement.
I have owned many HPs over the years and strayed to other brands only to return to HP.
I, too, have trouble with my vision. I always run my browser with the zoom setting at "125%". This works great for me. Infrequently there will be a web page which doesn't handle the zoom well.

All the Windows/Word, etc programs can be had on a Mac.
Sigh. Here are the other new Dell models besides the 3000:
