You are in a tough spot right now. We often have the fruit tree issues in Missouri, particularly for peaches. Some warm days in winter, blooms come out and get zapped.

Fortuantely, we still have adequate water for most years. If Hubby ever gets the swimming pool set up, we would be able to have enough to keep the garden, and the fruit trees/bushes going even during a more extended drought than usual.

In normal weather we only need about 2 months stored, but sometimes we need 4 or 5 months worth.

The weather patterns do seem very odd this winter.

Yes, it’s been very strange for us this year, especially the lack of rain.

A colleague who retired last year “threw” a potted plant right next to fence in the small garden I have at my work place — I could hardly see it because it is in an area where my Japanese honeysuckle grows and is very viney. I water regularly (more so than ever now).

A few days ago, I went out and was struck by the most beautiful flowers - cream, burgundy and spotted, many flowers along a long stem and two more stems that were loaded with flower buds. Had NO idea what it was!

Later that day, I happened over to my local garden store and saw a similar plant with similar leaves that had beautiful yellow blossoms on it, many running down a long stem and knew it was related to my mystery plant.

Turned out it was an orchid!! I don’t grow orchids but know my former colleague did - that plant has been out there ignored for almost a year and it is starting to look like it came from a florists shop. I don’t have my camera with me today but I can take photo and post it to next week’s thread. The flowers are stunning.

I always thought orchids were difficult to grow and never bothered with them but maybe I’ll start paying more attention.
