BLUFFTON, S.C. A black cat's stay at the greater Bluffton Home Depot has been extended indefinitely.
Depot, a cat who has lived at the store for 13 years, can remain in her home as long as she likes, a spokesperson for the home-improvement chain said Wednesday.
"Unless someone can provide her a better home, she can stay," Catherine Woodling, the spokesperson, said.
The cat has been a fixture in the store's lawn and garden center for more than a decade, according to customers.
But the store recently started shopping around for someone to take Depot off its hands. Apparently, the aging cat was tripping security alarms at night, Woodling said.

The Home Depot on Katella in Orange has a kitty that lives in the garden dept. He lays on the checkout counter and lets you pet him.

Lawn and garden dept is where one would expect to find a cat. Much more comfortable than electrical or plumbing.

Could be rats and mice tripping the alarms and getting the cat in trouble.

Wouldn’t put it past the little so-and-so’s.

Seen it in a lot of cartoons, so it must happen in real life.

She probably earns her keep by keeping the rodents out of the home and garden center.

I’ve been at the store several times in the last few weeks. Didn’t go into garden though.

Once they reach that age, making significant lifestyle changes isn’t a good idea.

I have been following the story. I became aware of the needs of elderly cats and geriatric cats. Last year, our Vet pointed out the issues.
It is odd that one day you find yourself in a home with both. We knew our oldest (18) was getting on in the years, but we learned they have needs that are different than younger ones. Sadly, the best for this cat may be a home with someone that could meet those needs.
I hope someone takes the cat in during those "golden" years. BTTT.

For those in Rio Linda, that would be So. Cal.

My Pom rides in the cart at Home Depot...one of our games is looking for Depot. I say “where’s Depot” and Molly sits up and starts looking for the cat. We search around the garden dept usually successful in our quest. Great that Depot can stay. The Bluffton Lowes is a “pet free zone” ...no dogs allowed even in the cart. Guess where we shop and where we don’t.
