My #1 tip is dont plan to use it as your primary desktop unless you plan to dedicate a bunch of time to maintaining it. It might make sense to compare the time maintaining it to the time you would otherwise spend with virus scanners, malware scanners, and all the other necessary maintenance required with MS-Windows.

Sorry with Windows 7 and 8 I’m not seeing any malware. Maybe you are comparing the latest Linux to an unsupported version of windows like win95 or winXP.
