Historical Linguistics . the disappearance or loss of an unstressed initial vowel or syllable, as in the formation of the word slant from aslant.

It's taken a nosedive, at least on my part. Yesterday at her lesson my older girl played her piece very well, as she practiced well. Me, not so much, at all. But thank you very much for bringing it up.
