The people who are STILL living like it's 1951: Captivating portraits take a look inside America's..

t may be 2014 to the rest of us, but for the subjects in Jennifer Greenburg’s photographs, it is still 1951. The assistant professor of photography at Indiana University Northwest has been photographing America's Rockabilly community for more than ten years; people that not only dress like it’s the Fifties, but also drive perfectly preserved Cadillacs and decorate their homes with furniture to rival the retro sets of Mad Men. 'At first I thought the culture was about fashion,' the 36-year-old photographer told MailOnline. 'Then I realized it was much, much, more than that. I realized that this was a culture of people who functioned as a community.'

Bill Haley and the Comets, 1972, Wembley Stadium:

See You Later Alligator
Rock Around the Clock

The London Rock and Roll Show was a concert held at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on August 5, 1972. It was the first ever concert held at the stadium. The concert included performances by major performers including Screamin’ Lord Sutch, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Bill Haley and His Comets. The concert ended with Chuck Berry.

The whole film is online (and DVD). I think Bill Haley has more clips in it than this.

The film of Bill Haley and Elvis in concert together remains locked in Polydor’s vault.

There are no singers left today.
There will never be another to equal this one.

That would be a highly politically incorrect way to dress today. The cap guns would infuriate the gun control advocates and the Estes Kefauver coonskin cap would enrage the animal rights crowd.

On the day you were born, Rocket 88 by Jackie Brenston & the Delta Cats topped the R & B charts, while I Want to Be With You Always by Lefty Frizzell topped the country/western charts. Those two tunes also topped the charts the day I was born, less than a week earlier.

It would be worth “giving up” the internet & even my cell phone. I miss peace of mind, security, & freedom so much.

I'm not sure I would want to go back to party lines for telephone service, which we had until 1960, when we got our first private line. On the other hand, voice mail didn't exist in the 1950's. I don't know which is worse--voice mail or party lines.

Oh gosh. I’d forgotten all about party lines. (lol :runs away screaming: ) Actually, I’ve never liked phones much. Because some people just love to talk too much. Cell phones are pretty convenient for something you need “on the way home” or car trouble, but I have one under protest. I refuse to learn to text, though. Of course, they’re indispensable for business.

I don’t know which is worse, either. I vote for neither.

I still wish I lived someplace that was frozen between the mid 1950s & 1970.
