While many dogs and cats can live harmoniously together, there are certain dog breeds with hunting instincts that may be too strong to handle daily life with a feline friend

I think I avoided that movie. :)
I grew up with heelers, no problems with the cats. I adopted 2, they ate cats, literally.
I adopted a basset hound, hated shepherds. He could pick out a shepherd in his sleep, even if it was a cross breed. And would try to pick a fight. We always wondered what happened to him on the street; he definitely had some anger toward that breed.
We live on a large ranch far from town and have both inside and outside cats. (as well as inside and outside dogs- who get along well with the cats)
The ‘barn cats’ live long and happy lives, thank you.
We adopted a big brute of a (recently neutered) tom cat to keep him from being put down. He refused to stay inside so we let him roam (could not stop him).
One day I got a call from a neighbor 2 houses down. Our cat, when he saw their very elderly cat sunning on the front steps, attacked it. The home owner opened the door and went out to try and protect her cat and both cats ran into her house. My tomcat chased the old lady cat up stairs and killed it up there.
Animals will be animals.
True story it happened in about 1981.
If your cats lived in town they would be subject to catching diseases from feral cats and being killed by dogs or run over by cars. Yours have the barn for protection and probably keep it free of rats. That works out well for them.
We have a ranch too, our ranch cats were killed by coyotes.
It was actually a pretty good show. The democrat vote fraud machine was in full swing back then too. (Vote Tammany)

Stand down, please. That is obviously a large rodent, smaller possum, or young groundhog.
That truly is not the shape of a cat’s head, nor is its front paw.
Please keep posting that photo on threads.
It continually provokes humorous emotional responses from those who are too easily offended.
Ah....... backstrap..... YUM! :)
What a handsome dog!
It’s not a cat. Take it easy.
What type of a sicko would lynch that many cats?
That’s one hell of a Jack Russell to have taken down a whole herd!
My dad died, and it was his dog, Sam. Sam is 9 years old and he is smart, but in alot of different ways. MY dog ...who was the love of my life and is now gone was a German Shrot Haired Pointer. Very smart too in different ways.
The only thing about Sam is he wants to be petted 24/7!!
Sam only barks when someone is at my door. He is very domineering too.
When I take him to doggie day care the guy who works there always says : Sam is the BOSS, he’s always the BOSS with the other dogs. I laugh.
Is this the line to sign up for Obama Care?
OR is it the Death Panels?
Them’s the biggest darned cats I ever saw! Poor kitties.
It sounds like we are talking about the same dog!! So funny.
I would definitely not recommend Alaskan Malamutes as compatible with small furry animals. Actually, large furry animals (other than dogs) might not be a good idea either. Our Malamute loves other dogs (except Great Danes for some reason) and people, but everything thing else is potential dinner.
