While many dogs and cats can live harmoniously together, there are certain dog breeds with hunting instincts that may be too strong to handle daily life with a feline friend

If that is a cat you ought to be ashamed of yourself..as should FR for printing it.
Are you brain damaged or blind or something?
Even if it”s a feral cat? Undomesticated they”re are as much of a pest as a rodent.
If that’s a cat you are an unbelieveably cruel individual and I’d put NOTHING past you. If I saw this- as much as I love dogs- I’d shoot it.
Yes. Even then. Such a dog should be put down.
meh - cat probably started it. He has a guilty limpness to him.
Calm down - it’s obviously an actual large rodent.
I think it is a possum.
It looks like a groundhog...
Put down? I”d give the pooch a medal. You haven” t seen what can happen when several hundred feral cats infiltrate a neighborhood. They are nasty smelly destructive pests, and not the cute kitty that deserves love and attention. Dom”t be so naive.
How very liberal of you.
You remind me of the moron who used to live next door to me who spanked her cat for killing rodents.
I happen to like cats just fine and have had many (with dogs) over the years. My dogs just happen to be rodent killers and don’t have any experience with cats and would see them no different. People around here keep their dogs under control. Its not my fault that people don’t do the same with their cats.
I have a feeling that this lady lives in the land of unicorns and skittles. She probably has problems with real world life issues. Bottom line is after cats ferralize after a dozen or so generations, they are as bad as rats. Not Ms. Kitty as she presumes.
If I see a cat before my dog does I’ll try to chase it off before the dog sees it and I don’t want my dog killing cats but there is little I could do to prevent it if my dog caught one.
Jack Russells kill instantly with a neck snap. They’re rodent killers and its in their nature. I’ve often said that if a Jack Russell grew as large as a pit bull they would be a dangerous dog but they seldom grow larger than 15 lbs or so. My vet actually said she would like to see me breed mine for his exceptionally mild temper with people.
It would be different if he were raised with a cat but the instinct is just too strong now.
Our schnoodle is one of the smartest dogs we’ve ever had. His bark is like fingernails on a chalk board and he uses it to get what he wants. He makes every effort to control the household. All in all, he is a good dog though.
Good doggie! :)
From this thread we are REALLY beginning to know some of our FReepers.
and therein lay your problem. You know crap about me and my love for my cats, woman. You may think you know more because i came in second against you in a sanctimony race; and if that is indeed the case, then i am happy to provide you reason for you to enjoy your superiority dance. In the meantime, yearly eye check-up do wonders.
And what if your cat killer dogs kill someones beloved pet not on your property? I hope they sue you for every penny you have.
In the movie Gangs of New York there was a scene where they tossed a terrier into a pit with rodents and taking bets on how many they would kill in a given amount of time.
No the dog should not be put down for doing what dogs are bred to do.
I hope your cats are all house cats because as my vet says “outside cats live short violent lives”!
