India is a popular source of “gestational carriers” as well, because there are lots of women poor enough to agree to it and reasonably good prenatal care.
It’s highly unlikely that any of the Thai women was the biological mother of the child she delivered, any more than the Indian women are. Most of the people manufacturing these babies are of European ethnicity, and they don’t want brown babies. They want babies who look somewhat like themselves. Iirc, the eggs are often bought from blonde Russian and Ukrainian women.
