Its funny reading folks pining for the good old days of pro football. Youre looking at the past with rose colored glasses. Guys like Butkus, Dobler, and Lambert werent out there sweet talking the opposition. Pro football has always been a sort of gladiatorial sport. The only difference between then and now is that back then there wasnt a camera in every players face all the time. I can only imagine the stuff that would have come out of Art Donovans mouth being interviewed by a sports babe on the sidelines.
Its grown men playing a kids game for Gods sake. I cant believe the sheer number of people getting wound up about sports theater. This is the NFL, not cricket. Im sure the Broncos are loaded with Emily Post graduates. If only people would get this angry about the polite and civil damage being done to our country by elected officials vs a player who has no impact on their personal lives maybe we could start to turn things around.
As for my fan’s eye view, the Broncos are a mercenary team with a dandy pretty boy as executive VP. I never cared for the way he treated Tebow after he buoyed his mediocre team. Ill be rooting for the relatively low paid, by NFL standards, Cinderella team whose core was pieced together from third round and higher draft picks two to three years ago. If they lose and some Bronco player talks doo-doo about a Seahawk player you wont find me whining and crying about it. Those that were made instant Bronco fans by the interview last night should follow a more tame game like croquet or just get a life in general. Go Hawks!
What surprises me the most is the reaction - the vitriol, the threats, the downright nastiness, the filth being spewed I’ve seen coming out of his critics in many, many cases is far, far, far worse than anything Sherm actually said/did on the field or the interview!
Would you act/talk that way in front of your grandmother?
Sure is an interesting study into human nature!
And sour grapes!
