Actually, Theron’s mother killed her abusive alcoholic father by shooting him. She calls her Mother her hero.. So which is it?
Obviously, her mother is a flawed hero. She was a hero for killing him, but she chose poorly when she picked such a dangerous weapon to use. In hindsight, it would have been much more commendable if she had found a knife, or bludgeon, with which to accomplish the deed.

She hates guns because her mother used one to protect herself against an abusive drunk? Would she have preferred her mother to be killed or seriously injured? Is she also against alcohol?
