I'm 58. I think there might be something to this. My friends marvel at the minute details I remember from back in the day. (Key fobs from buddies bikes, all kinds of stupid stuff like that.)
Until about 12 years ago, I always had 1-2 pots or more of strong coffee a day. Now it's 1 or 2 cups of decaf.

My 89 yr old dad has been goiing thru dementia for a couple of
years since shortly before my mom’s passing. I think it was
brought on by minor strokes. His long term memory is better
by far than the short term memory. Why? Because you spend
a lifetime implanting memories in your brain. They become
embedded. My dad can’t recall if it is 8am or pm but he can
talk endlessly about his WWII paratroopter days, stories I have
heard for 30 yrs and confirmed by war buddies at various reunions.
