The heartbroken parents of a 12 year-old-girl who died of pneumonia have discovered a letter she wrote to herself, to be opened ten years later.
A day after reading the letter on video and releasing it online, Taylor's father Tim buried his youngest child and said his devotion helped him endure the tragedy. "If it's God's time, it's God's time, and he loved her more than we could ever love her. So much so that he said come on, he said
Tennessee schoolgirl Taylor Scout Smith died suddenly of complications related to the illness on Sunday. Her parents found the sealed envelope containing a letter Taylor had written to her future self while cleaning her room.
The two-page note, which Taylor wrote last year, begins with: Dear Taylor, How's life? Life is pretty simple 10 years in your past. Congratulations on graduating high school, if you didn't, go back and keep trying. Do you have your own place yet? If we're in college what are we majoring in? Right now I want to be a lawyer.
In the letter, Taylor touches upon the everyday concerns of 12 year-olds such as iPads and Doctor Who, to the more profound issues of her future happiness. "How's your relationship with God?," Taylor asks her future self. "Have you prayed, worshiped, read the Bible or gone to serve the Lord recently? If not, get up and do so now!"
Video at the link.
So sad! Did she just plain get pneumonia by itself? No previous issue?
She had good perspective. They can be proud.
Dang. This will rip your guts out.
It’s also beautiful.
The loss is greater than just a a parent’s Daughter, some man lost out on a chance of an excellent Wife who Bible values more precious than jewels. Children will not be born to a loving and God Fearing Mother who would have started and guided them on a good path. More unborn have lost a wise and supportive Grandmother. And all of us have lost a a Sister in Christ. We must all trust that God’s plan was for greater things than these for Taylor. May God sent his solace and healing to the hearts and souls of her family. All that agree please say Amen.
Words of great wisdom from a wonderful and very smart girl.
ain’t no way I’m reading this
im a wuss about kids dying
Hmmm...no desire to become a mother or a wife but only to become someone who destroys others legally. Bummer.
Amen to a beautiful tribute.
Amen.
You are absolutely right, we have to trust in God. She sure sounds like a daughter one can be proud of. May God grant her family peace. She’s in a far better place now.
Uncalled for Jack.
That’s the thing that really stood out to me so I made note of it. Take it for what it’s worth.

An interesting exercise is to compose a letter to yourself at a very young age... what would you say to that younger self?
What if it were actually possible to dispatch that letter? How would your life be different now if you had received such a letter in your youth?
Like we really need more attorneys in this country?
We really need more engineers to build the country, not attorneys to destroy it.
Really, that’s all you got out of this? Did you even go through the entire video? You must live a truly sad and miserable life with such an outlook.
I got the other stuff which was great but this really stood out like a sore thumb.
I wish she’d have had higher aspirations than becoming an attorney.
amen
