Then instead of stupidly filming it, the ‘parent’ should have removed the kid from harm’s way and booted out the cat.

Gads, people are freaking morons.

Is *everything* up for YouTube-hit grabs these days?

How funny would it have been if the kid had an eye clawed out?

Geezus.

:-\

Be all that as it may, it’s still a bad idea to teach a child that intentional violent retaliation against a DUMB animal with teeth and claws is a good thing.

Next time, it could be an “over friendly” dog he belts.

Did he look like this?

No wonder you were upset.

Once the kids got old enough to understand ‘don’t be mean to the cats’, any cat scratches were considered signs of some sort of infraction. And thus deserve.

We have VERY laid back cats at our house. If they scratch you, you did something REALLY bad.

(flea pills are considered REALLY bad but we towel them up for that!)

You put your finger on it. Everyone wants to be famous, even at the expense of their kid.

I tried to find the original video, all I could find was the thread of folks livid with the parents.

In the full original video, the kid was minding his own biz when the cat jumped up on the bed and started SERIOUSLY biting the kid.

Kid had enough and left hooked it.

Here’s all that’s left of the post:

The comments tell the story.

And yes, the kid was in danger. I grew up on a farm, a cat can take your eye out like lightening.

FOUND A WORKING COPY!

Listen to the stupid mother laughing. The cat was really hurting the kid, she did nothing to stop it.

Agreed.

It is one thing to have to take action against an animal that has attacked a human for any reason. That is often right and necessary.

But when I see an animal put down because it was intentionally mistreated, that makes me angry.

I would NEVER do what she did with that cat. Never. Cats may be small, but they are very powerful, and when instincts take over, they will stand and fight aggressively to the death, often to their detriment. But fear seems to fly out the window, and is channeled into aggression and fighting.

If you push a cat to the point this woman did, you are stupid to do it without a weapon at hand, because as this video showed, they can do real damage.

And there is often no reason to be cruel to an animal. There are often ways to get them to do what you want without resorting to cruelty, especially with domesticated animals.

I got a bite on my right hand on New Year’s Eve 12/31/1999. I was at a party at my friend’s house, and I picked up his cat (I had lived with him for a while, and had spent many hours with the cat, holding him on my lap and such, so it wasn’t as if I just picked up a stranger’s cat...I wouldn’t do that)

The cat turned and nipped my right hand after I had been scratching his head. It seemed to barely break the skin, so I put him down and washed my hand with antibacterial soap. It didn’t really hurt...likely had something to do with all those margaritas I had been drinking!

Anyway, I went to bed, and when I woke up at six the next morning, my hand was blown up to twice its normal size. I spent all day in the ER, getting IV antibiotics. Apparently, the “nip” had been deep enough to penetrate my tendon sheath in the back of my hand, and the infection had traveled up to my forearm.

I took oral antibiotics for a week, but when I went in to get it checked, it was clear the infection was getting much worse. I got admitted to the hospital, had surgery on my hand, and spent a week in the hospital on IV antibiotics and demerol.

But it didn’t clear it. I ended up going back in and having a second surgery on my hand. I was concerned I was going to lose my hand, it was that bad. Now, I have a big scar from my knuckle to my wrist that is about a quarter of an inch wide. Great looking scar, and my hand was still 95% functional.

This all happened because cats have a nasty staph-like bacteria living in their mouths called Pasteurella.

This was such a small bite, didn’t even look like it did more than break the skin, but caused me a lot of grief. Now, if I even get a small scratch from my own cat, I am not taking any chances.

I know a man here in town that works for the school. He feeds the feral cats and does what he can for them. They are kind of like homeless people, in a way. They are often over looked or not noticed at all until they get themselves in the wrong place or cause some trouble. You’re a special kind of person to look after the lost.

For the record, I am not insulting homeless people. It’s an observation. My husband and I, along with our church, work with a homeless ministry in Phoenix. We’ve come to know and love many people who live on the streets. It’s not an easy life. I’d help with the cats, too, but I’m allergic to them. I can buy some cat food, though.

Well, we are humans so we don’t do this, but if so that lady is one whom it would be better for all if she were put to sleep.
