'There is nothing left': Family's $4MILLION medieval-style dream mansion that took them three years to build burns to the ground
A sprawling $4 million mansion built by an Ohio family has been gutted after a fire broke out on Friday afternoon.
Homeowner Maria Decker, who had only added the finishing touches to her family's dream home last year, was on vacation when the fire broke out.
Plumes of smoke and flames as high as 30ft could be seen as the fire ripped through the 22-room stone-built mansion.

Seriously if you are going to build a castle put in a modern sprinkler system. I mean come one have some modern technology to boot.
Sad to hear they lost their home to a fire...but was there a sprinkler system...and the fire hydrant with too small pipe outlet/pressure. What!!! As for me it’s looks like just another mcmansion. Architecture should sing...be a feast for the eye...and comfort for the body. IMHO.
Beautiful.
I’d call that a strategic defensive position.
Yep. If you build one from scratch you really need to include all of the safety and technology features. Even if you want to hide them behind a faux-brick wall.
Ain’t nobody sneaking into that daughters bedroom at the top of the tower.
You’d think the insurance underwriters would have demanded a sprinkler system.
A 22 room house with only 5 bedrooms. I wonder what all the other rooms were.
If you select “Indian Hill, OH” in the Google Maps search, it shows the boundary of this area, within which you can see a number of similar estates, some under construction at the time of the image. In fact I picked out the wrong one until I found a street address in a news item.
It may look medieval (which it doesn’t), but it was likely made from crap they brought at Tesco.
Senior elected officials are working on each getting their own castles.
DHS and DOJ are working on the dungeons.
I should have reformatted it.
1. Elevator
2. Flag Pole
3. “Sprawling...”
4. Swimming Pool
If you flunk, be happy that you don’t think like I do. Be very grateful. On the other hand, you could walk away with an “A” for the day. ;-)
I don’t know, something does not sound right. Maybe it is just my suspicious nature Wife out of town on vacation, kids away in college, husband out to lunch and animals all make it out safe. Very Convenient . Everything fits nicely into a big fat insurance claim. I am sure the insurance company’s fraud investigation departments interest is peaked on this one ..
Listen, Alice -
so true
I think it’s interesting that the home is in the wife’s name only, and yet it’s also listed as the building address for J.R. Decker Building Associates (a builder I assume). Doesn’t make for good advertising for him as a builder.
That’s what my mother calls it. She’s from Philadelphia.
Well then, the good news is that you didn't have to live in it.
