Those giant spider movies always gave me the creeps. You just never know with spiders, which direction are they looking at? Some of the huge ones are known to QUICKLY JUMP TOWARD THE THREAT as a default reflex. If I was hunting them (extremely unlikely!) I would have a decoy threat approach them first with great speed and aggression.
Once they leap onto the scarecrow figure, out comes the industrial strength RAID, with pin point accuracy.

There is something overwhelmingly ‘scrotal’ about that still life.

radioactive gigantism. Is this a proven scientific possibility or just the musings from a '50s sci-fi genre of movies?
More Global Warming faux-science?

I just saw a history channel show that talked about Radium back in the 20’s. Was used in cosmetics and ointments to “rejuvinate and bring a healthy glow”. I imagine it might have been sold as a remedy to improve “robustness and vigor”. (”AND - it’s glow-in-the-dark!”)
IIRC from school, any radiation affects strong enough to cause mutations such as gigantism, etc. will kill the subject before it happens. And genetic problems won’t pass down as the dose will render one impotent first.

This is exactly what happened in the 1950s,
radiation made living creatures grow and then cause lots of trouble,
Everything was black and white back then
