The fertility rate of women in the United States fell to a record low for the second year in a row in 2012, according to data released last week by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Also for the second year in a row, 40.7 percent of the babies born in the United States were born to unmarried mothers.
The fertility rate is the number of births per 1,000 women aged 15-44. In 2012—according to the Dec. 30, 2013 CDC report “Births: Final Data for 2012”—the U.S. fertility rate was 63.0. That was down from 63.2 in 2011, the previous all-time low. …

Can’t imagine that CNS News would withhold that information, so I assume the feds at CDC are concealing it.
I also want to see the birth total by race.
In 2011, non-Hispanic white babies were outnumbered for the first time by 50.4% to 49.6%.

Responsible people should be having children despite the financial challenges. Hell, they’re still paying property taxes.
The greatest cost is selflessness.
Our picture of ‘unmarried mothers’ is a young, usually minority, female. I’d bet a significant # of that 40% are college-educated, professional white women who live with their boyfriends without benefit of marriage OR are lesbians who found a sperm donor so baby could have two mommies.
Those women tend to have nice carers and make good incomes.
Reduce welfare and food stamp payments for every kid born to an unmarried woman and it will stop instantly!

It used to be said that a high school diploma would prevent illegitimacy but 50% of women with between 12 to 16 years of education aren’t married when they give birth.
