Unsafe-we were fortunate enough to have pastures to go to-one of the guys would go to an ice house that didn’t card, get the beer, we’d meet in the front of somebody’s property-quietly so as not to wake their parents and sneak into a pasture, woods or down to the river. You had to stay sober enough to get back without waking anyone or tripping and drowning in the river, too...
I never said it was safe. Sometimes people had field parties, or out in the woods. But I had a small social circle, so cruising around was usually it.
