I’ve known white people to be just as rotten. I once had a girlfriend who dumped an older cat “she loved” in the woods because the woman had gotten pregnant and heard she could get toxiplasmosis from the cat litter. She said, oh, she’ll be fine, someone will take her in, and she can kill mice to eat.

Glad you told her. Someone needed to. (And toxiplasmosis is not the bugaboo the public has been led to believe it to be.) But then, if you really don’t want your animal anymore, any excuse will suffice.
I have a friend who did the same thing with her old dog. She had some fantasy in her head that the dog would find a house and be taken in and loved. My feelings for her as a friend really took a hit after that. More likely the dog would either die of neglect or be killed and eaten by coyotes.
