I think it means that people who grow up with solid moral values and a clear understanding of where they left and why - are successful and focused. I work with kids, some Asian, and I have seen much in Asian parenting that borders on child abuse.
I do agree with her statement that counter-cultural people who have NOT bought into the 1960s mentality and accompanying cultural aberrations are also on solid ground. The aging 60s folks in these parts (so Cal) have that Land of the Lotus Eaters aura, to me.

My Father who is Chinese, and who loved me, did not believe in the BS ideology of parent as “friend”. He would have been put in jail today for some of the corrective action he took to keep me on the straight and narrow. I thank him for that as a productive, law abiding citizen, with good moral judgement and a high educational achievement.
Whenever I am around Asian children, they are very well behaved, stay by their parents side in stores, don’t run around all hyper, they and their parents seem to be very calm....Whereas, you go to Walmart and all I hear are parents screaming at their kids, leave that alone, no you can’t have it, stop it, come here, get over here now or else...It’s just my observation.
