Far better than giving money.
Throw in the classified pages from the newspaper also.
Second the bookmark.
I wonder if anybody forwarded has such a thing to church groups?
Dollar store goodies for the bag.
Multivitamins
Pain reliever pills
Small container petroleum jelly
Rain poncho
3.50 power reading glasses
Bar soap
Plastic soap holder
3 AA Flashlight
3 AA Batteries
Baby powder
3 pack disposable lighters
Eye drops
Most homeless guys have their system already worked out, but hitchhikers are often in need of clothing or blankets or food and drink.
I do sometimes stop to help a traveler who obviously hit the road under prepared, it doesn’t hurt to throw your old jacket and some bottled water in the trunk, to gift to a traveler.
bkmk
I suggested the 3.50 because while it is too much for casual reading, it allows someone to read small print when it is essential that they do so. Even putting a dollar store magnifying glass in there could be a godsend.
For casual reading, you pretty much have to get glasses for the individual.
I don’t neglect the Sallies (Salvation Army) and Goodwill in such deals, either. Dollar stores make a lot of their profits from selling things worth less than a dollar as well, so it’s good to comparison shop.
