Yay, yay, yay!!!!! School is closed today!!!!
Honestly, with 6-10 inches of snow, wind chill -17 degrees right now, 30 mph winds, a white-out going on---I was going to call in today, as were all the teachers I know. My car is buried by the snow and the plows, the Metropolitan Transit Authority basically stated on their webpage "If we get there, we get there, otherwise stand at the bus stop and freeze your tuchess off waiting forever". Thank goodness they just announced school is closed. It's so cold that salt will not work to melt ice, so you have everyone slip-sliding away on the sidewalk, being blown around by the wind, cars sliding through intersections, buses that can't climb hills, etc. They've closed major highways to avoid hundreds of stranded vehicles like the last blizzard. How on earth were kids and teachers supposed to get to school?
Aaaaaah. Spent most of the night up monitoring the weather and awaiting the fate of the NYC schools. Now, back to a thankfully warm bed. Plenty of folks around here have lost power according to the news, so I'm grateful.
YAY! Glad you can stay warm!
I don’t know how much we got here, it doesn’t seem too deep looking at the deck, waiting for sunrise to see what really feel here at the Jersey Bayshore.
Enjoy your snow day!
Sounds like fun.
Now you have to cap it off at around 6PM with my specialty winter drink:
2 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
2 oz Kahlua
1 oz 100 proof vodka
Shake with ice, serve over ice with a straw.
NOMS!!!
(I don’t know if there’s a name for this drink, but I just came up with it about 5 years ago)
How about a chocolate martini?
I know you teachers love this, but for working parents who can’t stay home, it’s a nightmare.
I myself need to get on finding a reliable fool proof baby sitter as our district will call off for an inch of snow or less. Always the “outlying” counties somehow can’t get clear. Somehow, though, people ALWAYS manage to make it to the mall and/or the doctor’s office with their 5 kids in tow. Lot of BS if you ask me.
I work at a medical office ..I FEAR what the day will bring. Every parent will bring in the sick/or really not sick kid today.
But I know up there in NY you really did get a lot.
What ever happened to the Hot Toddy?
Tell you what, though: tonight being Friday, I gonna cap it off with some grape juice for the Sabbath. Just took the wonderfully aromatic BBQ chicken outta the crockpot. Now that is intoxicating! Now it can go keep the spinach-mushroom kugel, the gefilte fish, and the Russian potato salad I fixed last night company until the meal. Mmmmm!
You mean the cure for the flu!
Told my wife not to go to work today, she went anyways. Stubborn, non essential service should stay home and she’s paid salary anyways.
Where are you located? NJ? I heard Gov. Krispy Kreme say on the news last night that all non-essential government personnel should stay home today.
My martinis are strictly Vespers.
Had 2 of ‘em last night while playing Bioshock Infinite.
I thank God every day for my situation. Being able to homeschool with my stay-at-home Wife makes things much better for my 2 Sons when I’m at work. Plus, we don’t have the option to not come to work as Coors is a 24-hour operation.
Hey, Thanks! I forgot I got a bottle of Bailey’s for Christmas and I’m on my third cup of coffee with no obligations this morning.
It would be a great day to put on a onesie, make some hot chocolate, and sign up for Obamacare.
Maybe an Irish Bulldog? Will have to file that one ;-)
You need to find a reliable teenage girl in the same district. Hopefully one who can walk to your house in the event of a snow day. Just have a standing, if we're closed, come on over. There's got to be one.
Enjoy. Oh, and by the way....enjoy school in the summer when the school doesn’t have AC.
The only time the no school thing worked out for my kids was when they were seniors and there was a hard deadline to the school year.
Add some coffee and call it an Espresso Martini.
