The Bears have made a long-term commitment to Jay Cutler, signing the veteran quarterback to a seven-year contract, general manager Phil Emery announced Thursday at Halas Hall.

"We're very excited to have Jay for the long term," Emery said. "He battled through the tough times and kept fighting."

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Bears receiver and Cutler pal Brandon Marshall tweeted "BOOM ... JAY 7 for 126 .. Congrats now let's go win." The deal reportedly includes at least $50 million in guaranteed money.

Well, that sealed the deal.

The Bears are guaranteed to be mediocre for the next 7 years.

News station said that Cutler will be the 7th highest paid quarterback in the NFL.

The Bears are living proof you can't fix stupid.

Disappointed with that decision. I think they should have kept Cutler sidelined and stayed with McCown.

I've been a Bear fan most of my life. Though I'm not an eat, drink and sleep sports fan. I'll watch 3-4 games a year if/when I have time or I remember.

I might just have to root for the Fudge Packers.

There is no doubt that Rodgers is a top caliber player. Cutler has the attitude that he's that caliber player, I just don't see it.

The best thing to happen to the Broncos was cutting Cutler.

Then came Tebow and Manning. Quite a ride here in mile high.

You gotta be kidding me. And this coming from a die-hard Packers fan.

The Bears have NEVER had a good QB throughout their existence.

Hey screw you. We're not a bunch of homos here. Our name comes from the Indian Packing Company, which was sold to Acme Packing.

I love Colorado and the Denver area. The Broncos have become my kind of my second home, team.

I rooted for Tebow and had hoped that he could have stayed in Denver under Manning (though it was obvious that Mr Ed didn't like him...at all).

So now, I can root for Denver AND Manning.

Manning is in the latter stages of his career. An AWESOME career. I'll root for him just so he'll have more successes.

Cutler ACTS like he's a Manning or Brady or Rodgers caliber quarterback. Manning, one of the best to ever play the game, ACTS like a normal human being.

According one source “not a surprising deal”.

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3608/jay-cutler

Stability at QB is worth a lot, even if your guy is not in the top 10 QB’s. This, apparently is the going rate.

Bears didn’t have a lot of options here.

Jimmy Mac.

Though not a typical "franchise" quarterback, WAS the perfect quarterback for the Bears. While playing, you always had hope that something could happen.

He wasn't a Marino or Montana, but for where he was, he was perfect. His players loved him and so did the fans.

Loved McMahon. He’s paying a terrible price for his years in the NFL.

Yeah, its a shame.

His teammate, Dave Duerson, killed himself 3 years ago, because of what he was dealing with.

Best news all day. Go, Pack, Go!

Ditto that! Another 7 years of the Bears being unable to beat the Packers. Gotta love that!

(Former Bears Fan here ... I say "former" because I HATE Jay Cutler! Stupid, stupid, STUPID move on the Bears part re-signing him for 7 years.)

If you saw the Channel 5 news out of Chicago today, 62% agree with you, only 38% agreed with the Bears decision to re-sign Cutler.

Gotta tell ya, I switched to being a Green Bay Packers fan when the Bears signed Cutler 5 years ago, cutting Kyle Orton.

Cutler in 5 years, at a cost of $30 million hasn't delivered jack shit for the Chicago Bears.

So the dumbass Bears Front Office re-signs Cutler for 7 years, guaranteed $57 million + some $25+ million in "incentives?"

Gotta be the dumbest business decision of all time in the Chicago Bears Front Office.

I've happily been a Green Bay Packers fan these last 5 years and I'll stay a Green Bay Packers fan going forward.

Screw the Shitcago Bears.

I don't think I agree with that. The Bears defense got old and injured. Urlacher retired, All Pro Briggs was out for most of the second half of the season, Tilman was hurt, and Melton tore an ACL. Don't know of many defenses that could survive the loss of 3 all pros and their most productive defensive lineman. Their superstar DL Julius Peppers got old. The new GM rebuilt the offensive line and now the receiving corps is one of the best in the league.

I am looking forward to seeing who the GM (Emery) picks in the draft and in free agency. Rodgers plays another year into the playoffs and was seriously injured during the year. I don't care who the QB is, it wears on them. I give the Bears two years and they will play the Packers even or better. Maybe a lot better.

Switching from a Bears fan to a Packer fan or visa versa isn’t possible. It would be like changing the color of your skin. You were never a real Bears fan in the first place.
