Thanks for the picture of The Bean. DD and I just took the South Shore into town and went to the Art Institute. We had a great time.
What do they do downtown that’s different?
You might want to do a little digging.
Heavily policed and even more heavily populated.
Chicago became an uninteresting city when Daley bulldozed Meigs.
A grizzly bear looks good from a distance.
My mother’s side of the family are all from Springfield and Lincoln Illinois area. My Mom’s cousin went to Chicago and was murdered shortly after he got there. It was long ago, but Mom’s family moved over here to Indy after that.
Not anywhere near the size of Chicago, but I still would rather not live in a big city. I love people but I don’t like being crammed in with people all around me. My dream is to get out of here and move to a rural area. We are here because my husband’s job is here. That is it.
I like a more remote lifestyle. If I want a dose of big city, I will go in and then get out. LOL
Last time I was in Chicago, we went to my son’s graduation at the naval station in north Chicago. We got stuck in a humongous snowstorm while there and it took 12 hours to get back into Northern Indiana. I thought I was going to lose it! Stuck in traffic, poor visibility. I needed a few extra blood pressure pills. I can’t stand being trapped.
My husband swore that he would never go there again. And we haven’t!
For the New Year and the Obama agenda, they have had Ashley Banfield on CNN doing stories about how the crime rate in Chicago is “down” with some clips of Rahm Emanuel in the segment. Trying to gloss over all the murders basically, with their propaganda.
Indianapolis is much nicer than Chicago. I live 20 miles north of downtown, about 2 miles from where that mother and daughter were killed in the home invasion in Westfield.
I have my 45 rule. I don’t go into Indianapolis without a .45. I can’t do this in Chicago so I will not go there.
I noticed they included justifiable homicides in those figures, when in the figures I looked at it was murder or non-accidental manslaughter only.
Perhaps that might play into the discrepancy, people love to play games with numbers like these.
My brother owns 65 acres not too far from hanover. just west of pulaski, on 30 mile.
killed a few whitetails there over the years... :)
I lived in homer until I was relocated to the tuilp city in 1971. my parents, both sides, are all from springport/homer/albion area.
small world...we were born in the same building, as I recall..my grandparents are buried in albion cemetery, on the river, right up the road from there.
cascarelli’s in homer has the best pizza.
You are showing pictures of buildings and roads from several thousand feet which obscures what makes Chicago a fugly place. Get down to street level with that camera and take pictures from a couple of thousand feet to the south of those skyscrapers. Before you do, let us know where to send the condolence cards.
I was born in Albion as well. Doctor Keefer delivered me.
cascarellis in Albion is where I learned that olive oil really is a condiment.
You don’t know what you’re talking about. I work in the city andwalk through it every day. Chicago is beautiful.
I live in Martintucky now, moved here from the Detroit area years ago and never looked back.
It gets a bad rap, but in all honesty its nothing like people make it out to be. We can go north or south for the big city stuff and live the small town life otherwise.
Actually the murder rate is down. It’s all over the local media.
