I will be making a short business trip to Cambridge and London, England (Feb 5-7 Cambridge, Saturday, Feb 8 in London). Then a slightly longer stay in Sophia, Bulgaria (Feb 9-15).
Freepers know everything. What should I do? What should I not do? Where should I eat? What places must I be sure to visit?
Don’t drink the water and hide your wallet......
Also, one of the best self-tours is to merely walk from Trafalgar Square down Whitehall to Big Ben/Parliament. You can stop in at the Horse Guards cavalry stables, see #10 Downing St (or at least the SMG-toting LEOs next to the wrought iron gate), and then end up at Bridge St. where Parliament is.
When we went there at about 6pm in November, it was dark and very foggy and Big Ben emerged from the mist as we drew closer just as it’s bells started to toll. There were London cops with their big hats and yellow coats on patrol and it was just a smile-widening moment like Sherlock Holmes might have come walking by or some urchin boy greeted us with ‘Ello, guvnah’. What a hoot.
I had sushi in London at a place right around the corner from the Japanese embassy on Half Moon St., where we stayed at the Hilton. It was at least as good as most sushi bars I’ve been to in Honolulu and West Los Angeles. All the Japanese embassy hotshots seemed to like it too.
Good advice. If you use a Brit Airline (the best that I know!) be prepared to not understand the Cockney speaking stewardness when she asks you (here in translation): “Chicken or beef?”
I remember now: “Checkin’ oh bafe?”
Stop into Trader Vic's & buy a round of Pina Coladas..
...he might let you touch his hair...
You’re smart, I’m stupid. I’ve spent many hours in London, maybe not 16 at a time, but many, and all of them in the hellish shopping mall of Heathrow!
I can’t *see* his hair. Is it perfect?
I meant Heathrow Express.
I’ve spent a lot of time in the British Airways lounge complexes. Nice way to spend some time at Heathrow. Down side is you have to have some sort of airline status or be flying upfront.
A while back I flew quite a bit and that made the travel a bit more bearable.
I can confirm your report, because I was able to sneak into those lounges a few times (Stateside as well), despite my lowest of the lowest status with the “Club”, but security became tight.
The face, man!
The facial hair is flawless!
(Maybe the top got rubbed bare by fans?)
All of whom later got their lungs ripped out, Jim.
Ha!
Exactly!
Still I'd love to meet his tailor...sigh....
Savile Row?
London is my favorite city, of those I have visited. Have been there numerous times. Get a guide book, look for what interests you. I am a history buff, and the Tower of London, the British Museum, Picidilly, Westminster Abbey, & St. Pauls Cathedral are high on my list. Also the Maritime Museum at Grenwich. Pick and choose. London is a cosmopolitan city for food. They have pubs that serve good food and beer.
The Imperial War Museum is not to be missed.

I don’t drink Gin and I don’t want to be scattered from here to J’burg. :-)
