You represent everyone and everyone should be represented. As soon as lawyers start picking and choosing, you turn the entire judgment over to the lawyers ... a nightmare. Doctors treat everyone. Lawyers represent everyone. You don’t then you should have the job.

The Mumia affair was something that the left took up as a cause in the intervening years between the Clinton impeachment and 911. Some were privately embarrassed by it. Once they had the Iraq War to protest, they largely forgot about him. It always bothered me, though. After reading the background on the case, I concluded that he did it and should have been executed a long time ago. I think that a lot of them would change their minds if they studied the case objectively. They might not change their minds about the death penalty, but they’d change their minds about Mumia, who is probably a sociopath cynically using these people.

That being said, in our system, people get legal representation. Some lawyer has to do the job.
